Hi, I’m Chris Derix

I'm a licensed psychologist who is passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges and build a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling. I believe that everyone deserves a space where they feel safe, supported, and empowered to focus on their mental health and personal growth.

My goal is to help people identify the things that matter to them, and set goals that align with their values, and learn tools to achieve those goals in the future. I hope to come alongside those who may be feeling stuck or overwhelmed, and work collaboratively to help them better understand themselves and meet goals they set for their lives.

Together, I strive to create a space where personal values and strengths are highlighted at the center of the therapeutic work, moving people toward a more fulfilling life.

Outside of my work, I’m a husband and father of two, and our family includes a very loved dog. I enjoy spending time outdoors and am a big fan of both soccer and hockey. On weekends, you can often find me coaching youth soccer, hiking local trails, listening to music and podcasts, or just relaxing and spending time with my family.

My Approach

Three signs on a chain-link fence with green plants behind them. The signs read: "DON'T GIVE UP," "YOU ARE NOT ALONE," and "YOU MATTER."

I strive to treat each person with the same respect, care, and openness that I would want for myself. I understand that starting therapy—and opening up to someone you’ve just met—can feel vulnerable or even intimidating. Because of that, I try hard to create a space where you feel comfortable and supported.

My approach is flexible and collaborative. While some clients might want to tell their story in their own way while I listen and offer guidance when needed; others may feel more comfortable when I take a more active role in leading the conversation. Either way, I’m here to meet you where you’re at and to adjust my style to support what works best for you.

If you’re new to therapy, I’m happy to walk you through what to expect, answer any questions, and help make the process feel as accessible and welcoming as possible. I also invite you to explore the Recommended Videos section on my site, where you’ll find helpful resources that give more insight into what therapy can look like.

What to expect:

I often describe our first session as a chance for both of us to get to know each other. I’ll ask you a range of questions to better understand what brings you in, your current challenges, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. I’ll also share my initial impressions, including any relevant diagnostic information, and be honest about whether I believe I’m the right person to support you.

Just as I’m learning about you, I also encourage you to ask questions—about my background, approach, or anything else that helps you decide whether I’m a good fit for you. Research consistently shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful outcomes, so it’s important that we both feel comfortable moving forward.

If we agree that we’re a good match, we’ll talk about how often to meet and begin developing a treatment plan that fits your goals and needs. If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s okay too—I’ll do my best to help connect you with someone who might be a better match.

What is telehealth?

Telehealth sessions are conducted using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video and audio platform that can be accessed from most electronic devices, such as a phone, tablet, or computer. I see clients exclusively through telehealth, which means all sessions take place remotely.

While some people understandably prefer in-person services, many find that telehealth offers several advantages—including greater flexibility, reduced travel time, and increased convenience. Whether you're at home, in the office, or elsewhere, telehealth can make it easier to access consistent, quality care that fits into your schedule.
